foot detox pads smell like bacon

Sometimes when I take off the sap sheets (TRMX-3) in the morning they stink of bacon. I rarely ever eat bacon, maybe 30 times in my life. Are they cleaning out nitrates or something from the bacon?

Also, are the black spots I see on the used sap sheets heavy metals? What is the oily looking substance that is on the pads in the morning?
